AMR Player

Certain audio formats are meant for something else than simply listening to music. When it comes to speech coding, AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) is the format you should opt for. It is used in modern day mobile phones and other devices, to store recordings. To play files in this format, an AMR codec is required, otherwise, your media player will not recognize it. A good alternative is AMR Player. As the name suggests, it is capable of playing AMR files, but you can perform other actions as well.

AMR Player is freeware and it does not use too much disk space or other resources. You can install it in a few seconds by following a wizard's easy to understand instructions. There is no need to install additional tools or codecs, so you can run the application right away.

There is not much to say about AMR Player's interface or its functions. You can bring up an Open dialog to load individual AMR files. They are listed on the interface, along with their paths, creation dates and sizes. You may use different options to play a file, pause or remove it from the list.

The software's functionality does not stop at playing AMR files. It can also convert them from AMR to MP3 or WAV. If you don't have any AMR files on your hard drive, you may perform the same conversion process, but in reverse. AMR Player is capable of turning WAV or MP3 files to AMR. Each type of conversion has its own option on the program's toolbar. Converting files involves selecting a file and an output path, on separate dialogs and it will not take long to complete the process.

You should also know that AMR files are categorized in AMR-NB (narrow band) and AMR-WB (wide band). They serve different purposes, but you don't need to concern yourself about these categories. Both of them are supported by AMR Player and you will not have to choose between them or make any related settings.
